Credit Repair After Bankruptcy

I filed chapter 7 bankruptcy after a divorce in 2002. I then had to file chapter 13 bankruptcy in 2007 because of a foreclosure on my home. I’m one month from finishing the chapter 13. Will these bankruptcies be on my credit report for the rest of my life? What can I do to improve my credit score?

Could I rebuild my credit without getting a car loan?

June 1, 2010 · Posted in Qualify For Loans · 7 Comments

If I file for bankruptcy, would I be able to rebuild my credit without getting a car loan? I want to purchase a car without a loan so I can just get liability insurance. I have a student loan and two credit cards that I’m planning to keep to help rebuild my credit. Will this get me to a credit score of 700+ after 2-3 years of paying on time?

Getting a personal loan with no credit

    May 30, 2010 · Posted in Qualify For Loans · 9 Comments

I am 18, just getting prepared to go to college, and I have no credit at all. I don’t need a student loan because my dad is paying for my school. However, my boyfriend and I live together and we just bought $1500 worth of furniture from his brother. We were supposed to stick to a payment plan since we don’t have a huge income, but his brother wants the money now. My boyfriend is just going through bankruptcy so he can’t get a loan. How can I go about getting a personal loan to pay them off? We are both employed so I am not worried about making payments, but I am clueless about how to even get a loan.

What will happen to my car loan if my co-signer files bankruptcy?

I have a car loan of about $10,000. I got this loan about 9 months ago. I am just wondering how it will affect me if my co-signer files bankruptcy.
The car is in my name and she is the co-signer. So, with all these new laws, does this mean they can come take my car too even though I make the payments?

I’m planning to relocate, but I currently owe a mortgage for $50k. I also have a bankruptcy on my record that’s a couple of years old. I’d like to find a new home in the state I’m moving to. Would I be able to get a second mortgage or refinance my current home in order to pay for a new one?

Not enough debt for debt consolidation?

April 18, 2010 · Posted in Improve Your Credit Score · 7 Comments

I have about $6,500 worth of debt, my income after taxes is about 21,000 a year. Most of my creditors have closed my accounts (all of my credit is maxed out). I recently got my FICO score and it is 529 (very, very poor). I have called some companies that specialize in debt consolidation and I have been told that I do not have “enough debt”. I talked to a professional about bankruptcy and was advised against filing because I do not have “enough debt”. I am a renter, and do not have any assets that could be held for collateral. With my credit score being the way it is, and closed accounts on my credit record… what are my options?
