What types of credit do I need to get a higher credit score?

May 3, 2010 · Posted in Improve Your Credit Score · 2 Comments

My credit score is about 615. I am working on improving my score so that I can qualify for a mortgage loan with low financing in about a year or so. I currently have an auto loan, and 3 revolving credit accounts. (All bank credit cards) Two of the revolving accounts are new, and the other almost a year old. My auto loan will be a year old in July of this year. Should I apply for more credit to get my score higher? If so what type of credit? What is a good mixture of credit to have to get my score higher? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Can debt consolidation reduce interest charges?

May 2, 2010 · Posted in Improve Your Credit Score · 4 Comments

I have two credit cards that I have used over 5 years ago and never paid back. The total of the two cards FIVE YEARS AGO was $1000. Of course, by now, it should be close to $3000 because of all the interests.

What does debt consolidation do? More importantly, can it REALLY remove or reduce the interest that built up over the last 5 years?

When doing a search for debt consolidation services, I get THOUSANDS of results. Which debt consolidation services are better?

Detailed answers would be appreciated.

my husband has 3 negative marks on his credit report, we tried to get in touch with the creditors and after what seemed like hours on hold, we finally got in touch, exchanged information and they said they would send over the bill, we’re still waiting and nothing has arrived so far. How do we fix our credit if the creditors won’t work with us? Is there a central agency or something where we can just pay off the debts and remove the bad marks off the report?

April 18, 2010 · Posted in Improve Your Credit Score · 7 Comments

I have about $6,500 worth of debt, my income after taxes is about 21,000 a year. Most of my creditors have closed my accounts (all of my credit is maxed out). I recently got my FICO score and it is 529 (very, very poor). I have called some companies that specialize in debt consolidation and I have been told that I do not have “enough debt”. I talked to a professional about bankruptcy and was advised against filing because I do not have “enough debt”. I am a renter, and do not have any assets that could be held for collateral. With my credit score being the way it is, and closed accounts on my credit record… what are my options?

April 16, 2010 · Posted in Improve Your Credit Score · 7 Comments

I recently purchased a home (3 months ago) and financed 100% of the home. At this point I do not have any equity in the home. I am currently looking for a way to consolidate some of my debt to lower my rate, lower my payment, and ultimately pay off the debt sooner. I have 1 car loan, 1 personal loan, and 5 credit/store cards that I would like to consolidate. My FICO score is currently 686, and I am on time every month with all of my bills. I have paid all bills on time (most of the time more than the minimum) for more than 3 years straight. My problem is that my Debt to Income ratio is probably too high for most lenders to consider me for a consolidation loan. What can I do to consolidate ALL of my debt? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have 2 credit cards on my credit report that I have never used. I’ve heard that the less credit you have available the higher your score will be (less cards equals less credit to max out on). But I’ve also heard that if you close accounts it lowers your score. Should I close them?

I’d like to fix my not-so-great credit and improve my score. I’m looking into the possibility of working with a consolidator or credit improvement service. I’ve heard good things about  Ameridebt and Lexington Law. Any recommendations?
Note: I’m engaged to a mortgage broker so he has a lot of experience with the credit bureaus (scoring, improving credit, etc.). He also holds seminars on financial advising so I could probably do this myself or with his help, but I’d rather take it to an outside company who specializes in this. I don’t mind paying fees, unless they are astronomical.

I have a question regarding debt consolidation. I have about 15k worth of debt and I have tried applying for a debt consolidation loan at two companies, but I was denied both times. I thought about trying what one of the other posters suggested, writing to the individual companies threatening a voluntary bankruptcy order. I have about 10k in the bank, but I don’t want to borrow from that lender because I wouldn’t be able to use the money in my account. My credit is only good. What other options do I have? Thanks
